Got this kit as my Christmas present from my dad, as even though I was kinda eyeing on this, it was sold out everywhere and the price in U.S. retailers were… quite steep. Now that I got it built, panel lined, decaled and topcoated, I wouldn’t be opposed to getting another one at its steep $50 price tag as holy shit, this kit deserves all the hype it’s getting.
For the retail price of the RG Nu, the Epyon comes in quite a small box, but it’s packed with dense runners, and the kit’s surprisingly a lengthy build as many parts come with under gates placed in odd spots and a lot of the times I was asking myself, what the fuck am I building? It’s super apparent in the waist and the forearms, and they’re so complex the wings build simpler in comparison. Amazingly, once everything’s put together, it’s solid like a rock, helped with the many locked connections. Hell, the backpack comes with two! There’s a lot of articulation, but it manages not to be finicky, and although the wings make the Epyon backheavy, once you put on its accessories, the weight balances out! Speaking of the accessories, they work too good to be true, the wire for the beam sword does not hinder posing capabilities at all, and its heat rod being the pre-molded part of the build works like an absolute charm. If everything wasn’t impressive enough, transforming it to its MA mode is like magic, and I actually like the look of it, which is why I would get another one just to transform it into its two-headed dragon form.
Snapping everything together happened to be the most time consuming part of the build. As this was a dark kit, the panel lining did not take as much as it does when I’m using a pen on an RG, and I did opt for the sticker decals, because while waterslides would be nice, I just love the easiness of applying stickers, don’t @ me. Finally, I topcoated everything when it was ideal humidity, posed ‘er up, and yeah, I’m so impressed. Because after all the great technicalities of this kit, this is undoubtedly the best looking Epyon by far. It ticks everything I love—big shoulders, thick legs, and giant wings, a design like other, fuck it, this is the best RG out right now, as even though the RG God has more articulation, the RG Epyon is more solid.
Overall, the Epyon’s a spectacular kit, but it does come at a high price. Is it worth it? Imo, hell yeah. Anyway, hopefully I’ll be back soon to showcase my dad’s MG Ginn! He should be done with it soon after working on it for a month…
