Now I usually don’t post the HGs I’ve built, unless they were fully painted and everything, but this kit is a milestone for me—after 7 years building Gunpla, this is my very first time hand-painting to detail up the kit. Why haven’t I done this before? I didn’t know how, until now, and I found out it was not as threatening as I thought it would be. And before you say anything, yeah it ain’t perfect, but it’s honest work.
For the build itself, well it’s an older HG that uses parts from an even older kit, so some of the engineering was pretty wacky, like, look at how the parts attach to the elbow and knee. That aside, it’s a really basic build, and the kit out of the box was really calling for a paint job, so for the first time, my dad taught me how to detail with paint, and made quite a few touch ups to the kit.
Before that, I first used black panel wash for the blue-gray parts, and light gray panel wash for the green parts, to add some contrast. For painting, I used Model Air paint and a paintbrush and covered quite a few areas. I color-corrected the vents that were just green to red and gray, though that was definitely the hardest and messiest part of the paintjob. Then there’s just gunmetal and red paint around the kit, I am certainly fond of the red circles by the cannons. I really like some of the touch ups I did on the head too, painting the vulcans red, and adding gunmetal to the hose, or whatever that piece is called. After finishing the paint, I just randomly applied some decals that were included in the kit. I like the final result of the kit, and yeah, I know it’s not the cleanest. I really need to paint another high grade now…
