Oh, the Lightcannon—the Earth Federation’s GM with their beloved Gundam stolen, which they had to resort mass producing their 2nd best option instead, the Guncannon. This was one of the only GQuuuuuuX kits I wanted besides the titular mobile suit and the Red Gundam, but it was surprisingly hard to find as there were none available at my local hobby shops or in the city when I visited, until I finally found it at Gundam Planet, picked it up, and have never seen it since.
Compared to the GQuuuuuuX and Red Gundam, the Lightcannon is by far the easiest kit to do, whether it’s building it or painting it up to get full color accuracy. The head and torso are dead simple compared to the Gundams and the limbs are constructed very similarly to the Red Gundam, but since they’re beefier, they’re ever so slightly more involved by a piece or two. As a modern HG, it’s reasonably solid with my only gripe being the shoulder joint being loose from the torso in one side, where the ball joint pops off so frequently I had to use some double-sided tape to strengthen the joint.
Getting the build done in two sittings, I went straight to hand painting the details that were not covered out of the box. I did use most of the stickers out of laziness and I figured they’d look better than me attempting to paint the tiny crevices, but it’s a nice breath of fresh air that there’s not much needed to fix compared to the Gundams of the line. I did quite a few additional touch-ups here and there just to break the red a bit and did a bit of other colors like green and orange to shake up the design even more. Panel lining this kit is pretty much on par with the Red Gundam without its accessories, which is quite a bit for an HG, but not much for me, and just to break the red even more, I applied a few white Delpi caution decals and gave the kit a quick flat coat, and he was ready to pose!
Like the GQuuuuuuX, the Lightcannon was quite fun to pose. Its articulation is as good as any modern HG with the bonus of pretty much nothing hindering its movement despite the awkward ankle joints that didn’t really pose much of a problem to me. It looks as photogenic as the GQuuuuuuX and Red Gundam, meaning it didn’t take too much effort getting it look good, and honestly with its hourglass shape, you can definitely get a bit wild with it if you know what I mean.
Overall, the Lightcannon was nice, quick and easy kit, something I really needed after my last build suffered many problems, one of which included these terribly designed ball joints that I ended up gluing in place. This didn’t take much effort to get it looking good, and it was fun to do the whole way through, even if it was a quick journey. Unless I get a Gundam build done on the 22nd, say hello the kit that celebrates my 10th anniversary as a Gunpla fan! It’s not much, but it was at least comforting. I’ll be formally celebrating my anniversary with something else anyway. See ya then!
