Completed build of the recent HG Nightingale using custom decals from DelpiDecal.
Basically, I fucking love this kit. This has been the least stressful kit since my RE/100 Zaku Kai build. For such a big kit, it’s incredibly simple to build, but it’s also super sturdy and stable because of the gigantic ‘pegs’ when you connect one core part to another, like connecting the foot and the leg together. You’d think for such a large kit there would be lots of parts, like the HG Penelope, but that really isn’t the case, besides from all the yellow and gray thruster parts, which even then it still isn’t bad. The red parts are absolutely huge though.
My dad does all the actually painting stuff, so I don’t the exact details, but we separated the red parts into three different tones, all the boosters were painted into gold and the outer part in a titanium exhaust type finish, everything inside the huge red parts were painted to give more of an inner frame look and everything, excluding the thrusters and the gun, were preshaded.
It took a lot of time for my dad to paint, but surprisingly (or not), the most time-consuming part was applying the decals. The sheet is fucking enormous and it took me forever what to decide to put because I didn’t want to follow their own application of non-numbered decals. But oh boy was getting to see it build up a sight to look at. You may notice the decals are ‘yellowish,’ my dad put weathering makeup on top on it to make it realistic.
Overall this kit was a blast. I always love building large High Grades, because they’re the size (or even bigger) of Master Grades, but have the simple build of a HG without the usage of polycaps, like most RE/100s. My only complaint I have with the kit is that the 3 white cylinders (forgot what you call them) like to droop down and probably from what you heard from others, the side skirts tend to fall down if you move the other parts. Other than that, I’m so happy how this build came out to be.
