Many people don’t dig the design of the Aerial Rebuild as much as its predecessor, which I shared the same opinion as well, but over time, especially when snapping the kit together, I’ve become one of the few who actually prefer the design of the Rebuild over the original Aerial. Maybe it comes from the fatigue looking at so many Aerials on the subreddit, and how the HG’s proportions kinda suck compared to the FM’s, maybe I’m just a sucker for blockier, more traditional looking Gundams that the Aerial Rebuild’s design leans towards.
Either way, coming from my last WFM kit, the Michaelis, the Rebuild blows that kit out of the water. It should be no surprise that the Aerial Rebuild is built super familiar to the Aerial, such as having those super solid shoulder connections, but it comes with a big backpack and a huge gun that adds a lot to its silhouette. That large gun gets even bigger with the bits attached, and Aerial can hold it without a problem, though do be careful as the hand armor parts like to detach when inserting the handles to them. The only fix build wise that you might have to do is what also suffers from the Aerial and Lfrith, strengthening the hand’s ball joint as it does get loose over time.
Anyway, onto the detailing: people’s biggest problem with the Rebuild is that it is too blue, and out of the box, without the stickers, the blue does feel too much. But, even with the stickers, albeit it comes with a lot for an HG, the green does break it quite well. I was still painting regardless, so I’ve added bits of gray, red, more green and even yellow to further break the blue. While I used the blue and green sticker for one of the bits, I did use white paint in place of the white stickers in the hopes it’ll look better, but, it’s alright. It’s not exactly the same color as the white plastic, the paint by the panel lines are messy, but at least from behind it is white instead of still being blue. I then went to panel line, which somehow has more lines than OG Aerial, sprinkled generic caution decals from DelpiDecal and put the cherry on top by giving a flat topcoat, which all I could say after finishing everything was:
Damn.
I’ve made the Rebuild look better than my OG Aerial, and without a doubt, this is my favorite HG:WFM kit by far. However, this title might go short-lived, as I do have the HG Calibarn on my backlog and I’ve been using a worn out pen for the Rebuild so I can finally use a new one for the Calibarn. For now, the Rebuild gets all my praise, and it doesn’t deserve the flack it gets design wise. See you soon with the Calibarn!
