Give it up for the most boring SEED Freedom kit I’ve yet. As my 7th kit in this HG line, I’m just so fucking done with this series, building a kit with the SEED Action System for the 7th time with a design I wasn’t really interested in the first place. But I got this as a gift from a friend of my dad’s, so I was obligated to get this done, and let me tell you, nothing’s new or exciting about this kit, it’s basically a worse Shi-ve.A that’s attached to several uninteresting characters and doesn’t really have any interesting scenes from the movie besides getting absolutely diced by Shinn with his Destiny Spec II.
As for the build, it’s a simplified Shi-ve.A—it’s a run of mill process that doesn’t come with any of Shi-ve.A’s flair. There’s no cool hatch gimmick on the chest, the shield’s just a shield, and it’s not beam happy as the Infinite Justice copycat is. It does share the same gun used in the Cal-re.A which is missing from Rud-ro.A’s cooler brother, and an anti-ship sword that belongs to Rudolph only, pretty much the only cool thing about this kit other than reusing the same backpack from Shi-ve.A.
After a quick snap build, I did the world’s most laziest detailing paint job with some Vallejo Steel and Red and Tamiya Metallic Grey, did the miniscule amount of panel lining and gave the kit a flat coat next day, making all the already tight joints tighter than I would like them to be.
In all honestly, the kit doesn’t look bad, I’m just so uninterested in the kit that the amount of effort I put on it felt like a waste of time, and getting it posed up was monotonous and surprisingly frustrating due to the joints handling awkwardly as shit and the side skirt armor being such a pain in the ass I actually squeezed the kit out of exasperation, but my puny hands did absolutely jack shit.
I’m actually starting to feel bad about this kit because it really didn’t do anything wrong, but it also doesn’t really wow as I’m really feeling burnout from the HG SEED Freedom line. The frame is exactly the same across every kit in the series, and the magic of its intermediate build from other HG kits has died quite a while ago. I’m hoping that Athrun’s Z’Gok does not disappoint, and I’m sure it won’t, but again, I’m just fucking done with SEED Freedom and want to move on already.
