My second ever painted build, and my first Shenlong Gundam kit after 7 years being in this hobby. We, my father and I, did the old HG/100 Serpent Custom
before we ever had our hands on a Shenlong. Besides that, this was a cool kit. We never owned any Shenlongs because I’m not particularly a fan of the MG version, and my dad keeps saying he wants the Supernova Altron he never gets it despite his terrible spending decisions. I basically wanted this kit because of the extending arm, and as you can see, it delivers. I also just like the silhouette in general, it has big shoulders, it’s very spikey, it’s definitely a 90’s Kunio Okawara design. It also just has a wild ab crunch, but other than that and the arm, the build’s kind of standard fare.
Anyway, as you can probably see, I’ve done quite a lot of hand-painting on this kit, and it is quite messy, especially on the green domes on the shoulders and the ankle armor. Most of the additional painting I did was using Model Air Gunmetal paint, I pretty much painted every spike that color, some Model Air Dark Gray on the ankle armor, a combination of Model Air Chrome and Tamiya Transparent Green on all four shoulder domes, slightly more chrome on the shield, and because I found that there was too much gray on the legs, I added a touch of Tamiya Yellow just to have some contrast, and oh boy I’m glad I did that because it just adds some color to the legs. Once everything dried, I panel lined everything to make more of the paint stand out, and overall, despite it being messy, I liked what I ended up with. However the ankle armor is very annoying, as even though it shows in the manual that it is panel lined, the “channels” barely exist, so you’re really free-handing those lines, and it’s really annoying.
Overall, this was a cool HG kit. I spent an ungodly amount on this kit, so I had to make it worth it spicing it up a lot. It’s a shame that the new Deathscythe Hell is P-Bandai, because if I wanted any other Wing HG, it would’ve been that one. Well, whatever, I’m doing the HG Stark Jegan next, and jeez, that needs a lot of painting to do…
