This is possibly the most absurd build I’ve ever done… ever.
Say hello to Kita Ikuyo, the lead singer of Kessoku Band from Bocchi the Rock! Which I got her on a whim at Gundam Planet as I was in the area and GP was selling her at a sale price of $48 vs her retail price of $60. While I initially had my eyes on 30MP Bocchi as a fan of the series, she was never in stock at any retailers and when they announced Kita, I thought she looked really cute and would probably be easier to get since she wasn’t Bocchi, and lo and behold I got her.
Like most 30ML kits, Kita is really easy to build, even easier than most 30MS gals as her outfit it super simple with barebones engineering hidden inside. Surprisingly, this is my only gal that rocks a t-shirt and a very long skirt, which if you gave her a mask and a baseball bat she’d pretty much look like a delinquent. I was morbidly curious whatever the hell was under the skirt as I would need to build it, and… yeah, underneath are undergarments alright… uh, take that information as you will. However, the fact she comes with the cable tie is hilarious, and funnily enough, I somehow lost the included cable bracelet without realizing, so what better fix was there than using an actual zip-tie cable as a replacement? It was a better fit and dead accurate to the Kessoku brand.
Anyway, while Kita’s build is simplistic, she comes with a plethora of accessories. Kita only comes with two pre-painted faceplates but two blank ones that you can customize with the included water decals of eyes. I thought I’d challenge myself and try decaling faces for once, and the process is kind of a doozy. The eyes are separate decals which I think is fucking stupid as you have to align both of them along with the mouth, and considering these are Bandai slides, they are a bitch to dry and line up as one wrong move and oh fuck the water slide moved when you didn’t want it to. I was able to get two faces, but I can see they look ever so slightly off from the pre-painted ones.
Aside from faces, there are also two skirt options—the main one being made of PET but limiting her leg articulation a lot, or another wider skirt made of two hard plastic pieces that extends leg movement slightly more. She also comes with a bunch of hand options that’d make most 30MS girls jealous, an entirely separate sitting position, the guitar she uses in the anime with a cable, an amp and straps, alternative bangs that obscures her face, and a microphone stand as she’ll certainly need as the singer for her band. There is a lot you can do with Kita with all these accessories, but I think it’s about time I address the gatling in the room.
So, I’ve really wanted to give a girl a giant gatling gun for a while as I thought it’d be pretty funny. You just have this cute girl wielding an unholy weapon, and there was no better candidate than Kita who was far from the usual mecha musume aesthetic. I love clashing aesthetics, so I was able to find a gatling gun for cheap with Bandai’s Option Parts Set Gunpla 09 - Giant Gatling, and was really easy to integrate as she was able to hold it without a problem and only needed to be attached to an AB7 to balance her right. Still being able to equip her guitar through the strap, I present Kita Ikuyo with a Gun! Unless something wild happens in the manga, I’m pretty sure this is not in-character for Kita at all, and I’m sure that gun would be waaaay to heavy for Kita to actually carry. It makes no goddamn sense, which makes it goddamn hilarious.
To continue the absurdity, I went ahead and painted the gun as I wasn’t gonna leave the gun all gray, but I also painted the guitar ever so slightly as the silver was in Bandai’s usual terrible plated silver. I also added some paint details to the stand and went the real lazy route of painting the guitar strings as trying to be precise was not working out at all. I did try a little harder on the amp. As you might tell, the gun is painted in militaristic colors which basically looks as if Kita stole the goddamn gun from somewhere. The implications are intentionally wild. I panel lined wherever I could with Kita and the Giant Gatling and gave a gloss coat to the gun barrels and guitar and the rest with a flat coat. It was time to pose!
Posing Kita was an absolute delight. Handling the guitar was a bit wonky as I had to deal with the cable, the amp, and the fact that I broke the strap along the way and used a band-aid fix of masking tape to hold the strap together, but I was able to pull off a bunch of poses, whether she’s rocking, rolling, or just being a grave danger to society. I find her genki energy super adorable, and then seeing it contrasted with the giant gun I have her wielding.
Overall, Kita was a blast. The bunch of included accessories make her super playable and I’m inclined to get 30MP Bocchi to pair with her and also give her an absurd weapon to wield, like a giant sword or chainsaw even. I still got two more gals in my backlog with two more coming in soon, so that’s unlikely to happen. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you all next time!
